Our Accomplishments

At Loco por la Aventura, every achievement is more than just a number—it’s a step toward a world where the outdoors belongs to everyone.

basecamp MOUNTAINEERING CENTER (BMC)

In June 2025, we proudly opened Loco BaseCamp—the first Latino-led outdoor hub in Portland.
For us, this wasn’t just opening a space—it was creating a home for our community. BaseCamp is where our mission comes to life: a place where anyone, regardless of language, culture, or income, can access quality outdoor gear at fair prices, join bilingual workshops, and feel part of a welcoming network that celebrates diversity in the outdoors.

This accomplishment is a milestone in our journey toward equity and inclusion in outdoor recreation. By breaking down cultural, financial, and language barriers, Loco BaseCamp brings us closer to a future where everyone feels they belong in nature—and has the tools, skills, and community support to thrive there.

BCEP Latino: Building Skills, Leaders, and Community

Since 2021, our founder Aníbal Rocheta has led the Latino Basic Climbing Education Program (BCEP Latino) in partnership with Mazamas, Portland’s historic mountaineering school. This intensive eight-week course, running each spring, equips participants with essential mountaineering and climbing skills—from glacier travel and rope systems to outdoor rock techniques and avalanche safety.

But BCEP Latino is more than a technical course. It’s a gateway to confidence, resilience, and connection. Over 70 graduates—many of them first-time climbers—have gone on to become leaders and mentors in their communities. By breaking cultural, financial, and language barriers, BCEP Latino reflects our mission: making outdoor recreation accessible, safe, and welcoming for the Latino community and beyond.

Accelerated by Adidas

In 2023, our founder Aníbal Rocheta was selected as one of eight social entrepreneurs in the prestigious Adidas Community Lab, a Portland-based accelerator that supports Black and Latino visionaries. Over nine months, Aníbal received mentorship, expert-led workshops, pitch training, funds and powerful networking opportunities (forbes.com).

This transformative experience strengthened our capacity to reach underserved Latino communities through safe, inclusive, and culturally grounded outdoor programming—amplifying our impact and positioning LOCO POR LA AVENTURA to expand our mission with greater clarity, confidence, and scale.
