On Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14, we proudly celebrated the grand opening of the Loco por la Aventura Basecamp Mountaineering Center — a one-of-a-kind space designed to transform the way the Latino community accesses, learns, and experiences the outdoors.
After months of hard work, dedication, and shared dreams, this community center — more than just a store — has become the physical heart of our mission: to educate, inspire, and equip our community to enjoy nature in a safe, fun, and accessible way.
A Place to Shop with Purpose
What makes it truly special is that every purchase and every rental has a social purpose: 100% of the profits are reinvested directly into our free activities, workshops, and outdoor programs, benefiting community members facing economic barriers. Here, shopping is an act of solidarity.
A Hub for Learning and Community
The Loco por la Aventura Basecamp Mountaineering Center is not only a place to gear up for your next adventure but also a space for education and connection. Each week, we host free clinics, workshops, and talks in Spanish on topics such as climbing techniques, proper gear use, mountain safety, navigation, knots, first aid, survival, environmental awareness, and much more.
Our goal is for everyone who walks through these doors to leave not only with an item or new knowledge but with fresh motivation to connect with nature.
A Weekend of Joy and Community
Our two-day grand opening was nothing short of a community celebration. More than 100 people came together to make this dream a reality. There was music, raffles, guided tours of the store, fun activities, snacks, presentations about our programs, and countless opportunities to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.
Seeing so many happy faces — families exploring the center, youth learning about mountain gear, and community members sharing their stories — was without a doubt one of the greatest rewards of this entire journey.
