Last Saturday, June 10, we organized the first FREE intensive rock climbing course in Spanish, all under the instruction of the experienced climber Juan Rodríguez and myself. And honestly, we had an incredible time.
This special workshop took place in one of Oregon’s most impressive rocky landscapes: Smith Rock.
Over the years, Smith Rock has become one of the preferred destinations for climbers, thanks to the thousands of routes it offers for this sport—from the simplest to the most challenging and complex, including multi-pitch climbs.
But it’s not all about climbing. Smith Rock also offers dozens of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, as well as opportunities for fishing, bird watching (if you’re lucky, you might spot an eagle), and taking beautiful photos to remember the experience.
In this course, we had the participation of 9 students, and we are extremely proud of them. For some, it was their first time on the rock, and seeing them overcome their fears and reach the top was truly rewarding.
Without a doubt, it was a very productive day. We learned basic safety techniques and the importance of applying them at all times while practicing this sport. We also covered how to tie a figure-eight knot, how to belay, basic commands, route setting, and even how to rescue a partner in an emergency.
But the most valuable takeaway from this day was the importance of learning to work as a team—united, in harmony, and with trust—supporting each other to overcome routes that once seemed difficult to conquer.
For me personally, it was a privilege to share my knowledge and experience with you, but it was even more rewarding to witness your growth and progress throughout the day.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Juan Rodríguez immensely for sharing his knowledge, time, and skills with the entire team.
What about you? Would you like to learn how to rock climb with us? Then, keep a close eye on our social media because we’ll soon be announcing a new FREE course for the community.
Remember: limitations are mental, and “No one achieves what they don’t dare to try.”
A huge thank you to Guayaki for hydrating all our events and Rhino Skin Solutions for providing their products for the participant raffle.
